The residential complex was a pilot project for ecological planning in subsidized housing and in 2003 received the Timber Construction Prize Styria, Special Award for Ecology.
The beautiful location of the property inspired the community of Leoben, here to create a Sun City for 21 residential units in row house-like, at most two flat buildings. The urban design follows the topographical situation. Buildings and roads take over the curves of the elevation layer lines, all orientate to the south and have a view of the valley.
The road development at the edges of the area brings the car directly or close to the entrances. According to the different or changing family structures, different apartment sizes and types are offered, which also take into account a few expansion stages or conversions. The building itself has a low structural depth, so that the winter sun flooded the entire house depth.
All living and sleeping rooms are oriented towards the sun. The northern part of the building, in which all the installation rooms are housed, is constructed in solid brick construction with full thermal insulation, the southern living area in wooden skeleton construction. Active and passive solar and domestic water use support the system of low energy houses.
