At the “Umspannwerk Graz Nord” location, an extension for the new switchgear with upstream transformer boxes is to be built to the existing switchgear.
According to the preliminary planning by Energie Steiermark Technik, the new structures are directly linked to the building stock and are located on an underground collector aisle.
The new structures (switchgear / transformer box) each have a closed shell with different technical materials and are understood as compact kits with the latest technology. The height of the structures is staggered due to the different requirements of the technical equipment. The shape of the individual additions is deliberately reduced. Their closed facades complement the ensemble of infrastructure buildings in the Graz Nord transformer station, which have grown over the decades.
The facade of the extensions picks up on parts of the existing control center and interprets them in a contemporary way. The light of the facade of the new control center can be illuminated. The new transformer station gets a stone dwelling and is in its form as an independent modern component in the technical landscape.
