In Rothneusiedl, urban development and open space combine in the form of lines and fields to form a coherent unit – a dialogue between city and landscape – a necessary coexistence towards a more ecological city of short and attractive distances.
The new climate showcase city of Rothneusiedl connects and interweaves urban spaces with natural green spaces. The green space runs through the urban areas as a form of democratic green space that is available to everyone in the neighbourhood. This offers a high quality of life for future residents through green, cool and unsealed areas. Among other things, the networked greenery forms living eco-corridors for a diverse flora and fauna. The basic structure of the new neighbourhood follows the lines of the fields and meadows, both in the green spaces and in the arrangement of the building areas. Local squares bundle functions and form identities in the neighbourhoods. They are closely linked to the Mobility Hub and the local district centre and serve as meeting points. Starting from the Zukunftshof, the agricultural character manifests itself in an edible city with picking gardens, educational gardens and community gardens in a wide variety of places. The typical windbreaks formed by the landscape will be preserved. The entire energy supply for the new urban neighbourhood is based on renewable energy. Grey energy is significantly reduced through the use of CO2-reduced concrete, wood and clay. A soil carousel ensures the preservation of Rothneusiedl’s fertile soils by reusing the excavated material.
