Administration building of one of the largest wood processing companies in Austria.
The traditional company Mayr Melnhof needed an extension of its location in Leoben. The entire new building is built in wood construction
The company’s products are based on up to date timber construction-technology, making the building an impressive reference project for the company. Even the company logo M&M was effectively integrated into the supporting structure and signals the innovative application of the traditional material.
In order not to expose the new offices to traffic, the entire office building was raised one storey higher. On the ground floor is only the entrance foyer with adjoining conference room – set back from the street with soundproofed glazing. The recently built IT center has also been integrated into the development.
The new building accommodates up to 100 workplaces from different departments. The aim was to enable the best possible communication between the individual departments and to optimize interfaces. A clear room structure offers flexibility and manageability too. The office zones on the 1st and 2nd floors are arranged on both sides of a multifunctional access zone.
This light-flooded mid-zone offers generous space for communication, meeting and breaks. Atriums and galleries create visual connections, bring light and sun into the entire building and offer varied space experiences. The widening of the mid-zone creates areas that can be experienced in different ways, culminating in a bright café with a view of the company’s own wood store, framed by the mountain panorama of Upper Styria.
