The basic linear structure is continued in the new infrastructure buildings and the interplay of the building masses is taken up.

The airport security building with its high point only protrudes as far as necessary. The administration building of the shipyard and storage building forms different areas and organises the southern access to the airport area. The staggered building is orientated equally on all four sides and forms the western end of the varied line. The building volumes are set according to simple geometric rules. The deliberate positioning of the buildings ensures that airport operations on the airfield are as clear as possible.

The three infrastructure themes ‘Flight Safety, Dockyard and Squadron’ are clearly formally accentuated and three unique new addresses are created. The entries to the airport area are clearly laid out and allow for a smooth flow throughout the entire area.

The control tower was positioned in the centre of the entire airfield area and, together with the two-storey hangar for flight safety vehicles, forms the entrance building to the site. The gap to the dockyard buildings ensures smooth access to the southern area and the airfield.

Access for all employees is positioned in the centre of the shipyard building ensemble, the heart of the facility. Whether administration, warehouse logistics, repair or maintenance experts, men and women meet and spread out in a central location in this versatile ensemble of buildings.

The squadron building is positioned directly at the helicopter parking positions. The new building is orientated almost squarely on all sides. A clearly defined entrance and an equally clearly shaped exit onto the airfield form the control function here and provide a link to the functions in the neighbouring existing buildings.
